SCADA

Treatment plants use a System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to see what is happening around their facilities.  It would be too expensive to hire a person to watch each instrument, valve, pump, feeder and every other piece of equipment at the plant.  For this reason, plants use computer technology as their "eyes and ears" around the facility.

There are two types of SCADA systems, remote and local.  A local SCADA system controls equipment and instruments which are located on the same property as the plant.  A remote SCADA system controls equipment and instruments which are physically located away from the plant.
